A Last Minute Cruise – Part 2

The Escape docked in Roatan which is the largest of the Honduras’ Bay Islands. It covers approximately 32 square miles. The island is located about 40 miles off the Honduras coast and is a popular tourist area.

We were enjoying the unexpected events of this cruise, as we had already had crazy weather, changes to the cruise itinerary, and a cancelled tour in Cozumel. So when we met our tour guide, we were not surprised that before we left the parking lot, we had to sign our excursion ticket confirming that we were okay with any changes due to weather.

At the beach, the weather was a bit blustery as we were getting the far outer bands from a hurricane near Jamacia. Even with the clouds, it was still hot and humid. I teased Jim about his summer tan lines.

The snorkeling tour was supposed to go to a shipwreck and Starfish Alley. The shipwreck portion was cancelled due to waves, but we were thankful that we would still see the starfish.

Jim has a new under water camera case for his phone that works much better than the plastic pouches. He was able to get some good pictures. We had to do an underwater “42”…where did the time go??

There were hundreds of starfish. They told us that on a nice day, the water is so clear, that the starfish look bright red. One of the guides, dove down and grabbed a starfish so we could take a picture. They were huge!!

While we snorkeled, we could hear thunder, We asked the guide if we needed to get back into the boat and he said, “No you are safe, just keep swimming”… travel is all about trust…lol

The weather did take a turn and we had an intense squall hit us, so the boat headed back to shore,

On the resort deck, we had a small lunch buffet. The empanadas were very good.

Back at the pier, we grabbed one last picture. We love the ship’s greeters on the pier, they are always so happy.

For the evening, we were invited to have dinner with two of the ship’s officers. We enjoyed talking to Jane who is the Shore Excursion manager. She has been with NCL for 14 years. Her husband also works on the EPIC as a room steward. We had a wonderful time and even received a picture to remember the evening. The other officer was an engineer and the couple was from Croatia.

We ended the evening in the main theater, enjoying the music of Fleetwood Mac performed by the same group that plays in the Pour House. It was interesting to learn the history behind the songs.

Travelling is all about going with the flow and having a great day, even when it isn’t the exact day you planned. Onto Belize…
