No Kids Allowed 2024 – Boston Red Sox Game

After a great cruise to Bermuda and Bar Harbor, Maine, we disembarked in Boston. It was our daughter(Jodi) and son-in-law(Wade) 16th wedding anniversary. So in planning this trip, we decided to stay an extra day and celebrate. Wade had asked if we could celebrate at a Boston Red Sox game. Well why not???

We took the T train from the pier to the airport, where we picked up a rental car. After checking into our hotel, we headed for downtown Boston. We were early for the game so decided to stop by Cheers…”where everyone knows your name”, but it was a 2 1/2 hour wait, so we opted for a picture on the stairs instead

Our first view of Fenway Park. We were here in 2000 with our family, but this was Wade’s first time.

Such a historic place!!! Everyone got a picture.

The game we were attending was against the Yankees, and we arrived just in time to watch some of the team walk into the stadium.

Since we couldn’t eat at Cheers, we opted for the Original Tasty. It was founded in 2010 by a group of local chefs and from 2014-2020 was the official burger of the Red Sox.

Standing in line to enter the stadium. They moved the game time up an hour, so everyone could get home to watch the NBA Finals game. It was cool to see all the championship banners.

Jim played catch with a Red Sox worker on stilts.

Our seats for the game. Since there was rain in the forecast, we were glad to be sitting under the roof.

Just before game time, the threat of rain became a reality and the tarp came out. It was interesting to watch the process.

We used the rain delay to enjoy the sights and sounds of Fenway Park

After a 45 minute delay, the tarp came off and it was just as interesting watching that process. We felt bad for the summer interns who had to roll up a wet, heavy tarp. It takes a lot of people to complete the job.

After the tarp was rolled up, sand was spread onto the infield to absorb the rain water.

The pre-game festivities…the Red Sox mascots, Tessie and Wally the Green Monsters, greeted the gentleman who threw out the first pitch, as well as area students who were honored for their good grades.

First responders stood in left field to help with the presentation of the American flag as it came down the left field wall.

Yankee Player Aaron Judge…he is 6’7″, which is tall for a baseball player. He is not liked in Boston as the fans booed very loudly.

A few interesting things about Fenway Park…the scoreboard is a manual board. The operator places the number placards by hand and the outfield fence is called the Green Monster

In between innings, the summer interns did maintenance work. They do a lot of work during the game.

The Yankees won the game, but we had a great time. Our only complainant…those original wooden seats are not very comfortable…lol
