It was the 6th day of our No Parents Allowed adventure and the port stop was Ketchikan. It is considered Alaska’s first official city. It was incorporated in August, 1900 and currently has a population of 8200 people. The area was first explored in 1793 by the British Naval Captain George Vancouver.
NCL has a private dock north of the city called The Mill at Ward Cove. Wyatt thought is was cool to watch the NCL Sun dock next to our ship.

The view of the fishing harbor was amazing!!

We only had 4 hours in port so we booked tickets for the lumberjack show.

During the show they gave away autographed lumberjack pictures for the craziest fans. Yup, we won …lol!!!

There were two teams of lumberjacks, a blue team (USA) and a red team (Canada). We were assigned to cheer for the red team. There would be several competitions all involving lumberjack skills.

Ax throwing

Bridge building

2 man buck saw

Axe chopping

Chainsaw cutting

Elevated axe chop

There was “friendly” discussions…

And “creative woodcarving

Pole climbing…wow they were fast

Then there was the log run…the water was frozen and had to broken before they started

The log rolling competition…They can’t touch each other but can splash water, which had to be very cold.

It was a fun show, though our red team didn’t win.

The second part of our tour included a lesson in axe throwing. After the lesson, there was a family axe competition. Cindy got a bullseye which helped us win

Our prize was a wooden axe. Whitney is showing how many points she got, haha

Walking back to the shuttle bus, we stopped on Mission Street to get a picture with famous Ketchikan sign. There has been an arch sign at this location since 1928. Over the years, there have been various designs. The current sign is a replica of the 1951 sign and was dedicated in 1996.

When our ship pulled into port, we noticed the water was covered in jellyfish, so when we saw this business, we had to stop. Whitney said, “I don’t think I want a donut as I don’t think a jellyfish donut would taste very good”…Oh sweet blonde Whit, you make us laugh. They had crazy donuts, like the Pebbles cereal donut.

Back at the ship, Jim stayed on the dock so we could take a picture for perspective

He then took a picture of us

Before we got back on the ship, the kids “convinced” us they each needed one last Alaska souvenir.

We ate lunch in the warm afternoon sun as we sailed away from Ketchikan.

We chilled in our room for the rest of the afternoon and enjoyed an amazing sunset. Jim was able to get a great close-up.

That night, it was finally warm enough for the Laser Tag course to open. The course is outside so can only be played after sunset and it was still abit chilly. We were paired with 6 other guests and we won!!

We ended the evening in the theater watching Anthony Salazar the Magician.

What a great day!!
